We know very well , medium are generally two types ,
- Dense medium
- Rare medium
When light travel one medium to another medium then it reflect . We can understand refraction of light by an activity .
Activity -
When the light beam from one transparent medium crosses obliquely to another transparent medium, the direction of its transmission changes at the interface of both mediums. This phenomenon of light is called refraction of light.
● Snell law's :-
Snell’s Law describes refraction as light strikes the boundary between two media n1 sin i = n2 sin r The index of refraction of a pure vecuum.
According to Snell law , incident ray , reflected ray and perpendicular at interface point are in same plane .
For a pair of two mediums, the ratio of the sine of the incidence angle and the sine of the angle of refraction is a constant. It's constant is known as reflective index of one medium with respect to another medium.
n1 = refractive index of medium 1st
n2 = refractive index of medium 2nd

We take an rectangular glass slab and placed in environment , and put the light ray on it glass slab. So one part of the light beam collides with the glass slab and goes back into the air medium, and the remaining part goes into the glass slab.this ,This phenomenon is called refraction of light.
